Madeleine Tuckfield-Carrano

In this exhibition Madeleine Tuckfield-Carrano, artist, curator and Director of Artsite, builds on her established & highly recognisable Folded Light series.

Taken to a new level of visceral intensity, these works draw the observer into light and heat. The primordial scent of volcanic darkness, a first flick of light, the eternally cycling burst of light. Time progresses in textured bands of individual beginnings, journeyings, endings, rhythmically cycling.

Public Collections include: National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, ACT; Art Gallery of NSW ; Art Gallery of Western Australia ; Australian Broadcasting Corporation; National Gallery of Australia; The MAGAM Collection, Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Sydney NSW; Electricity Trust of South Australia; Alexander Mackie College (A&D UNSW), Sydney, NSW ; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chile; Tama Art University, Japan.

Private Collections: Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, USA, Japan and Great Britain.

For those who ask how one functions as gallerist/curator and artist, the answer is simply that it definitely helps to be a gregarious recluse and very possibly, cyclically obsessive…
It certainly places me in a better position to understand the many forms of angst that artists experience leading up to a solo show. Although the phrases, ‘herding cats’ and ‘’nothing like a deadline’ often come to mind…
These works have been finished long before they were actualised on canvas, and… it is infinitely frustrating waiting for paint layers to dry.

However, in resonance with others, it is ultimately cathartic and extremely satisfying to let the work go – in a sense, to be outed.”
