A dedicated gardener, my mother’s final wish was to be remembered for her flower filled cottage garden. This work is made in honour of that wish. Dysis is a word of ancient Greek origin, representing the end of the day and the into darkness. Used as a female gendered name it means sunset. The golden hour held deep symbolic meaning for the Dutch still life painters, used to reference the transience of life. It seemed fitting for this picture. ~ Christine Druitt Preston 2025.
