Collectors Choice 2024 ~ Summer Curation
As with all art, it is best viewed in person — not through secondhand social media posts or tiny, distorted online reproductions.
Art needs to be experienced in the real world; it is not flat, nor can it be properly appreciated through monitor distortion. Real art needs to be truly looked at.
The challenge is to face-off with a piece of art and allow that image to work its way into your understanding, resonating with your psyche. Then, you will hear it calling to you — embedding itself in your memory and demanding attention because it is a real experience, made in the flesh, not an AI-assisted virtual invader that mimics the artist’s work through digital reproduction.
Look with your eyes and let the work call to you.
Art is not about marketing or flashy publicity stunts. Most artists and their galleries cannot afford that type of promotion in the current economic climate, and it’s all fluff if the art itself lacks substance and staying power. Blancmange may be fashionable at the moment, but it is unfortunately becoming just decorative wallpaper.
Art needs to be constantly revealing itself; each look should bring a fresh surprise—’Oh! I never noticed that before.’ The best work does not expose itself all at once on the first ‘date’. It develops a relationship with the viewer over time, through contemplation and a growing understanding of the artist’s intention.
Often, this is not just about looking; it also involves understanding what you as the viewer bring to the interpretation of the work from your own perspective.
It is a conversation, a friendship, that is renewed with each ‘seeing.’ This is for you to discover for yourself in this year Collector’s Choice 2024 ~ Summer Curation.
By no means overlooked, these works represent the best exhibition standard of our artists and invited guests, including recent works by Christine Druitt Preston, Judy Trick, Nikki Adams, Kerwayne Berry, Lisa Tomasetti, Madeleine Tuckfield-Carrano, and the outstanding landscape paintings of David Banks, in anticipation of his solo exhibition in late 2025.
In one sense, this exhibition reflects not only works from our artists’ exhibitions held this year, but also features some surprises that will intrigue the astute collector’s eye. In this years Collector’s Choice 2024 ~ Summer Curation, we have included original limited edition prints and small works by Australia’s well-known artists, including Charles Blackman, Judy Cassab, Ray Crooke, Geoffrey Riccardo, Pamela Griffiths, Graham Fransella, Sally Morgan, George Milpurrurru, Francine Kulitja, Daniel O’Toole (Ears), and more… to mention just a few of the highly collectible works that have been hiding in the stockroom this year.
This exhibition will close for our annual Summer Break on 08 December 2024.
