We’re delighted to welcome Mark Naismith-Beeley as the newest artist to join the Artsite family.
Mark paints Sydney Harbour the way locals actually see it — not the postcard version, but a working harbour of ferries, tugs and boatyards, caught in the kind of light that makes you stop mid-commute for a second longer than you meant to.
He came to it sideways: years in finance and law before an easel pulled him back in 2020, and that same close, analytical eye now goes into stripping a scene back to what actually matters.
As he puts it: “I paint mostly light… I paint what I know and yet I still learn more every time I paint.“
He’s a recent finalist in the Lane Cove Art Prize and the Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize, and right now he’s deep into a new body of work on the historic waterways of New South Wales — decommissioned vessels, old cranes, the quiet places where industry and water have settled into an understanding.
Take a look at Mark’s work in the gallery stockroom and online shop.
